かぞくはカリフォルニアにいます。わたしはMilitary Officerです。かぞくはつまとむすめがひとりとむすこがひとりとねこがいっぴきといぬがいっぴきいます。にかげつににかいかぞくとレストランへいきます。いちねんににいっかいわたしの国へいきます。げつようびからきんようびまでしごとがあります。でもどようびとにちようびはやすみです。やすみにこどもとこうえんdスポーツをします。わたしのせいかつはいそがしですがとてもたのしです。

このどようびとにちようびにうちへかえります。わたしはどよびにいしゃのやくそくです。これはじゅじからじゅいちまでです。それからレストランへいきます。たくさんおいしいたべものをたべます。それからうちへかえりますそしてしゅくだいをします。しゅくだいはむずかしですがおもしろいです。それからテレビをみます。ちちとはははじゅじにうちへかえります。わたしはははにプレゼントをかいました。らいしゅうのげつようびはははのたんじょびにです。ちちのたんじょびはさんがつここのかです。わたしはごぜんいちじにねます。にちようびはやすみです。

わたしはいつもはちじにおきます。それからあるいてひとりでコロンビアだいがくへいきます。わたしははちはんにあさごはんをたべます。げつようびとすいようびにクラスはじゅうじじゅうぷんからにじじゅうごふんまでです。かようびともくようびにクラスはいちじじゅうぷんからさんじよじゅうごふんまでです。まにちごじにばんごはんをとべます。わたしはろくじにあるいてうちへかえります。まいばんしちじからじゅうにじまでべんきようします。それからじゅうにはんにねます。きのうようびとどようびとにちようびやすみです。

My desire to learn Japanese spawns from my infatuation with anime. Ever since I was little I'd stay up late watching shows such as Naruto, Bleach, Rurouni Kenshin, and my personal favorite, Yu Yu Hakusho. Though these shows were all English dubbed it took very little time for my love of anime to lead me to shows that weren't yet translated. It was certainly annoying at first with the constant back and forth motion between the bottom of the screen to read subtitles and the image on the screen . The transition took some time getting used to but once I grew accustomed to watching and reading, it was quite enjoyable.
 As I grew older my love for Japanese animation remained the same and I soon realized that Japan wouldn't be such a bad place to visit. Though I've wanted to travel there for some time now, I've never had the chance to. Columbia currently has a study abroad program in Kyoto which caught my attention early in the semester but a minimum of two semesters in Japanese is required. Hopefully, I can acquire the skills necessary within these next two semesters to qualify for the program and spend a full 8 weeks studying in Japan. Definitely doesn't sound like a bad time at all.
